Zagreb is the country’s political, economic,
commercial, cultural, sports and diplomatic
center. Easily accessible via its international
airport, rail and road links, the city offers a
range of hotel accommodations, congress
halls and exceptionally attractive historic
venues for meeting and receptions. Its oldest
parts, Gradec and Kaptol, are ranked
among the most beautiful and best preserved
historical centers in Europe. Zagreb’s Golden
Hall, with its spectacular neo-baroque space,
sculptures and frescoes by famous Croatian
artists, is a perfect venue for off-site events, as
is the Art Pavilion, where some of the world’s
best works of art and culture are on display.
The spacious villas in Opatija were built
in the 19th Century by Austro-Hungarian
noblemen looking to escape the harsh winters
further north. Today Opatija is often called the
“Nice of the Adriatic,” and is one of the most
popular tourist destinations in Croatia. The
city sits at the foot of Mt. Ucka and overlooks
a protected harbor and marina, making it a
convenient stopping point for coastal cruises.
Opatija’s climate, landscape, well-maintained
beaches and a broad slate of festivals and
entertainment events broaden its appeal.
Served by nearby Pula International
Airport, Rovinj is one of the most romantic and
atmospheric small coastal towns in Croatia.
Local attractions include the baroque, three-
nave St. Euphemia Church, with its marble
relief of St. Euphemia from the 14th century,
and several Renaissance and Baroque
palaces. The Rovinj Town Museum houses a
collection of paintings from the 16th through
the 18th centuries, as well as a contemporary
art collection. Rovinj is also a great place to
sample Croatia’s special mix of island and
coastal cuisine. Rich in fsh and seafood –
including prawns, calamari and shellfsh – a
typical dinner might include fsh soup, fsh
stew, boiled prawns, or black and white
seafood risotto.
