Identifying Essential CSR
Practices for Meetings
Meeting Professionals International (MPI) released the initial fndings of
Phase 1 of a three-year study on industry corporate social responsibility
(CSR) practices that will provide guidance to meeting professionals on
and effective
to consider
in event
design. Leeds
researcher James Musgrave discussed the report in his recent
presentation at IMEX America in Las Vegas. Preliminary fndings include:
• Third-party CSR accreditation is a growing trend
• Transparency and verifability of CSR are increasingly important
• Lack of a clear defnition of CSR causes fragmented
• The meetings industry can help demonstrate commitment through
“experiential CSR.”
The research also outlines clearly three areas of implementation
practices for all elements of social responsibility, and breaks them into
“must,” “should” and “can” opportunities.
Phase two of the research includes in-depth interviews and surveys,
which will involve responses from all levels of experience and various
industries. Data collected will be further analyzed and presented as a
fnal report at the World Education Congress in St. Louis in July 2012.
Hard Rock Hotels Coming to
Three Mexican Resorts
Hard Rock International recently announced an agreement with Palace
Resorts LLC to transform Palace Resorts properties in Cancun, Puerto
Vallarta and Riviera Maya into Hard Rock Hotels. The transformation
process will begin in the coming months, with the frst Hard Rock-
rebranded hotel in Cancun scheduled to launch in Winter 2012, Puerto
Vallarta in Spring 2012, followed by a Fall 2012 frst-phase debut of
Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. Each hotel will remain fully operational
as an existing Palace Resorts property during the conversion process.
Each Hard Rock Mexico location is a beachfront property that, upon its
re-fagging, will feature unmatched, all-inclusive luxury accommodations
including in-room double Jacuzzis, fne dining, top-shelf drinks,
24-hour room service, live entertainment and more. All three will
offer Hard Rock’s signature Rock Star Suites and will showcase an
extensive collection
of authentic
memorabilia from
international and
local music artists,
while incorporating
diverse music
genres throughout.

host an ongoing
schedule of live
concerts, celebrity-
driven soirees and

Asia-Pacifc Expansion
Caesars Entertainment Corporation announced its Asia-Pacifc debut
with the groundbreaking of Caesars Palace Longmu Bay in Hainan,
China. The fagship 5-star luxury resort represents the frst major
venture of Caesars Global Life, a non-gaming division created to
develop and manage branded luxury hotels, resorts, residences,
villas, retail and entertainment destinations around the world. The
company’s goal is to develop 25 hotels and resorts in China over the
