Second Annual IMEX America
Achieves a Number of New Firsts
Speaking at the closing press conference of the second edition of IMEX
America, Chairman Ray Bloom noted that the show had hosted 2,400
buyers from across North America and 43 other global markets – a
increase in attendance over 2011. In addition, the Las Vegas-
based trade show had also welcomed around 1,700 attendees.
This year 2,413 individual exhibiting companies showcased their
destinations, venues, products and services filling halls C and D at
the Sands Expo Center to capacity. As a result, the show will move to
bigger halls at the Sands in 2013 and the hosted buyer program will be
significantly expanded. Bloom added that participants had turned out
in huge numbers for Site Nite North America and Association Focus
and Evening on Monday. The show’s Euro Party on Wednesday had
also been a great success, with 22 European exhibitors turning the
halls into a celebration of European entertainment and diversity with
music, refreshments and competitions. At the start of the week MPI’s
Smart Monday had seen well over 1,000 people take part in a full
day of free professional education, and the MPI Foundation’s PURE
Rendezvous night had also welcomed almost 2,000 party-goers who
helped boost funds for the foundation. Next year’s IMEX America is
scheduled for October 15-17, 2013. For more information, go to

year, ICCA has unveiled a dedicated logo and website, an interactive
history timeline with pages where ICCA members can share their
ICCA Congress memories, social media campaigns and video
interviews with dozens of members. There will be celebrations and
innovative new activities at the ICCA Research, Sales and Marketing
Program in ICCA’s HQ city Amsterdam in June and at all other events

Anniversary celebration
will culminate at the
ICCA Congress
in Shanghai, China, to
be held November 2-6,
The concept of
ICCA was first discussed
by travel agents Moises
Shuster from Mexico and
Jean Claude Murat from
Paris at the beginning
of the 1960s, to take
advantage of the then
new phenomenon of
international association
meetings which were
being stimulated by the introduction of commercial jet aircraft –
particularly the potentially lucrative medical meetings field. At a
meeting in Paris in 1963, Shuster and Murat, together with five
other travel agents from four different continents around the world,
founded the International Congress and Convention Association. More
