The Stuttgart Region enjoys one of the strongest economies of any conurbation in Europe and is a leader in innovation. It is a high-tech center for growth industries, for the creative economy and for key technology clusters such as automotive manufacturing, e-mobility, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, aerospace engineering and green technology. The local Swabian people's spirit of invention has brought forth global players including Daimler, Porsche and Bosch – companies synonymous with a long tradition and technological innovations. The region is a popular destination for medical conferences and a renowned seat of learning, home to numerous universities, academies and institutes. It is also one of the leading research centers in Europe. Indeed, the Stuttgart Region registers the second highest number of patent applications in Europe.
More than 250 conference centers, conference hotels and event venues offer a wide range of options of varying capacities for conferences, conventions and exhibitions. Stuttgart International Airport serves more than 120 destinations including the USA. The city also benefits from a well-connected autobahn/highway network and InterCityExpress (high-speed) train station. Stuttgart's International Congress Center, one of the ten largest conference venues in Germany, and trade fair grounds are situated right next to the airport, something no other similar venue in Europe can offer. The trade fair and congress center are served by two dedicated hotels, cutting down travel times for delegates. The Liederhalle Cultural and Congress Centre, with its central location and adjoining hotel is nothing short of a "conference city" in the heart of Stuttgart. A further nine conference centers in the region offer facilities for staging an event with a difference, for instance amid the idyllic vineyards of the city of Fellbach. The Forum am Schlosspark in Ludwigsburg enjoys a stunning setting against the backdrop of the ResidencePalace, the palace gardens and the Favorite and Monrepos summer residences. The state-of-the-art Neckar Forum Esslingen scores high for its central location within a beautiful medieval town.
The conference destinations maintain high environmental standards and stand out for their above-average commitment to sustainability. According to a study published in German business magazine Wirtschaftswoche in June 2012, Stuttgart is the most sustainable city in Germany.
With renowned art museums and a high-calibre music scene, Stuttgart has a richer choice of culture and entertainment than anywhere else in Germany and is home to masterpieces of modern architecture such as the two spectacular automotive museums of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.
The Stuttgart Convention Bureau represents the congress region of Stuttgart with its event venues, conference hotels and special locations. The Bureau is the central point of contact for event planners. It offers a comprehensive service package comprising all aspects of congresses and meetings, such as general advice, suggestions for fringe programs, booking hotel accommodation and supplying congress travel passes for the local public transport network.
