AIME 09 breaks records as visitors numbers rise by 9.6%.

A good indication of the state of the industry:
In defiance of the current economic climate AIME 09, 17th Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo, held in Melbourne this week, was a record breaker with both visitor and exhibitor numbers up on last year.
Exhibitor numbers increased 5.5% and the unaudited total attendance figures were up by 9.6% over last year, with a record 3,584 trade visitors, including 467 Hosted Buyers, visiting the two-day event. (The figures do not include revisits to the show or exhibitors.)
Paul Kennedy MBE, Group Exhibition Director, Meetings & Incentive Events, Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) said, “When you consider the current economic situation and the devastating local bushfires these results are really incredible and reflect the resilience of the meetings and incentive industry.”

The Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB) and regional Victoria initiated a special bushfire appeal and collected donations at their joint stand. A total of AU$15,000, which included significant contributions from RTE and MCVB, was raised during the two-day trade fair.
“AIME was an excellent event for Melbourne and Victoria, allowing us to present our meetings and incentive credentials to international hosted buyers and visitors,” said Sandra Chipchase, CEO, MCVB. “The industry’s support for the Victorian bushfires was wonderful, with many offers of additional support,” she said. AIME 2010 will be held from 27 – 28 April at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

AirAsia launched daily service between Bangkok and Bali last month. Equipment used on this route is an Airbus A320 aircraft.
For business tourism, the low cost carrier offers group booking and aircraft charter.

In The Air
Air China Adds More Lift to Taiwan

Air ChinaAir China launched four additional routes between Mainland China and Taipai, Taiwan. The new routes fly from Tianjin, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Chongqing on Mainland. China, to Taipai. All the routes fly direct to Taipei. They do not fly via Hong Kong or detour over Hong Kong airspace thereby making flying between the Mainland and Taiwan quicker and more convenient for travelers. The new routes to Taipai are in addition to the Beijing/Taipai and Shanghai/Taipai services, which were launched in July 2008 after an historic agreement was signed between officials from Mainland China and Taiwan.
The routes represent the closer ties between the two regions and open up business, cultural and travel opportunities.
