The IMEX trade show will be bigger and greener than ever this year with IMEX being the first trade show organizers at Messe Frankfurt to use green energy. Locally sourced hydroelectric power will be used for all electricity needs throughout the week, including set up and break down. IMEX is also recycling 80% of the exhibition’s waste, offering participants greener travel options, using environmentally friendly visitor bags and the introducing an anti-idling policy on buses which will be powered by bio-fuel. The launch of the new Green Supplier Award has attracted an unprecedented number of applications, and The Green Meetings Awards and the Commitment to the Community Award continue to attract a high number of entries. According to IMEX, this is evidence of a shift in grassroots attitudes to environmental protection.

Until next time

ENGLAND: Lively Liverpool

ACC LiverpoolLiverpool, home of The Beatles and the European Capital of Culture for 2008, is experiencing quite a renaissance. The ACC Liverpool (Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool) and new hotels opened this year and a new cruise ship terminal opened last September – all in the city on the River Mersey.
The £164 million ACC Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre, located in the Albert Dock complex, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The center is comprised of the Echo Arena Liverpool and the BT Convention Centre and it is the UK’s first entirely "green" live venue. All the power for the venue will come from sustainable sources, with five on-site, low-noise wind turbines accounting for 10 percent of the electricity generated into the facility. The roofs collect rainwater, which will account for 40 percent of the water used for flushing toilets. The center’s Echo Arena Liverpool at the ACC is a state- of-the-art arena with over 10,000 seats. The BT Convention Centre is a unique, purpose built meetings facility with 3 auditoriums, 18 breakout rooms, a 3,725 sqm (40,096 sqft) multi-purpose hall and over 7,000 sqm (75,347 sqft) of exhibition space. BT’s experienced staff is ready to assist planners with events.
