Jurys Doyle, the privately owned Irish hotel group, will now be known as the Doyle Collection. The hotel group will concentrate on the luxury end of the market with all properties having a 4-Star rating, except for the Westbury in Dublin, which is a 5-Star property. Scandic Hotels is expanding beyond the Nordic Region and Eastern Europe, with a new hotel in Hamburg, Germany. The Scandic Hamburg, which is expected to open in 2011, will have 325 rooms and be located in the center of Hamburg. The UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) is launching a new long-term tourism research project, which will forecast the growth of international tourism through 2030. The study entitled UNWTO Future Vision: Tourism Towards 2030 will be presented at the UNWTO General Assembly to be held in the Republic of Kazakhstan in October of next year. The Copenhagen Admiral Hotel’s recent renovation expanded upon the hotel’s maritime location and original architecture to bring out the best in the property. Once a grain warehouse, the building’s beautiful dark wood beams and thick walls were made into assets. Each of the hotel’s 366 guest rooms and suites have custom made Danish teak furniture and state-of-the-art room facilities. The Middle Eastern country of Qatar is forecasting a large and steady increase in tourism over the next few years. It is expected that when the new international airport opens in 2012, 15 million passengers will travel through it in its first year of operation. And the Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (QTEA) reports that the country’s hotel capacity will increase from the present number of 4,300 hotel rooms to 29,000 hotel rooms by 2012. |

Dubai’s Burj Al Arab is the place for luxury meetings. The 7-Star, $650 million property is set on a man-made island 900 ft/ 270 m out in the Persian Gulf. The hotel’s atrium is nearly 590 ft/177 m high. Accommodations consist of 202 huge two-story suites. Opulent meeting and conference facilities consist of 8 event rooms accommodating from 12 to 350. The two-tiered, circular ballroom is designed like an 18th century Viennese Opera House with marble pillars, chandeliers and a central gold dome. | Etihad Airways Flying to Moscow | |
Etihad Airways recently launched service from Abu Dhabi to Moscow. The new service operates five times weekly using an Airbus A320. The plane is configured with 140 seats in two classes of service with 20 seats in Business Class and 120 seats in Economy Class. Flights depart Abu Dhabi on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and arrive at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport on the same day. Return flights depart Moscow on the same days. |
