Crowne Plaza Paris RépubliqueThe 4-Star Crowne Plaza Paris République, formerly the Holiday Inn, was renovated and re-branded last month. The 328 room property, which was built in 1865 during the reign of Napoleon III, features an historic inner courtyard/open air patio with meeting rooms surrounding it.

TURKEY: Swissôtel Grand Efes Izmir ~ New Convention Center

Swissôtel Grand Efes IzmirThe 402 guest room Swissôtel Grand Efes Izmir, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, re-opened last year after a complete refurbishment.

This year, the property opened an on-site convention center that is one of the largest and most modern in the region. The new convention center offers 7,299 sqm/78,566 sqft of space and is outfitted with state-of-the-art event technology. Crown Plaza London KensingtonFollowing an £8 million refurbishment and re-branding, the Crowne Plaza London Kensington reopened last month. The charming property, which was a Holiday Inn, features 162 guest rooms and suites, Executive Level guest rooms and private gardens.

Meeting space, which was renovated and fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, includes six DDA compliant (Disability Discrimination Act) meeting rooms with natural daylight and air-conditioning. The largest meeting room accommodates 250 for a reception.

Additional facilities include a business center, restaurant, lobby lounge and fitness center with sauna.
The property is located opposite the Gloucester Road tube station with easy access to and from London Heathrow using the Underground.

SOUTH AFRICA: Cape Town International Convention Centre Phase 2
Cape Town International Convention Centre

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is embarking on Phase 2 of its development with plans to create the greenest building in South Africa. The CTICC expansion will be a 6-Star, 30,000 sqm/322,917 sqft green building that will feature 9,500 sqm/102,257 sqft of exhibition space.

CEO of CTICC, Mr. Toefy said Phase 2 would be designed to use 40% less energy per square meter than the present CTICC, 95% less potable water and 25% less waste to landfill. The building will utilize natural daylight and renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Water conservation will be achieved through recycling of rainwater and an on-site water treatment system. Waste will be minimized through on-site recycling.  Completion of the Phase 2 project is targeted for mid-2010.
