The construction of the Royal University Library and Royal State Archives began on February 21st 1911 based on the competition‑winning project by the architect Rudolf Lubynski. Completed in 1913, the Croatian State Archives building is one of the most beautiful buildings in Croatia. This most important palace of the Croatian secessionist period is a successful combination of early Viennese secessionism and modern European, especially German, architecture, marked from the beginning of the 20th century. It is a solitary building situated within a park and it blends well into the urban plan of downown Zagreb; the is the so‑called ‘green horseshoe’ which is based around several other city parks. The high dome above the central large reading room in the axis of the mansion, with four pillars where four owls carrying globes are situated, perfectly represents the library's identity. This historic building, filled with rich works of art, paintings, reliefs, chandeliers and desk lamps, as well as decorative objects and furniture, is ideal for holding top‑class events where the beauty of the place itself is an additional tool for success.
