Geneva, Switzerland

General Information

Arts / Theater

The ”Grand Theater” is one of Europe’s major opera houses. It stages operas and lyric recitals with internationally renowned singers and musicians, and top‑quality ballet. Classical concerts take place at the ”Victoria Hall”, shows at the ”Théâtre du Léman”, and in summer, open‑air concerts take place in the courtyard of the Town Hall and in many public parks.

Sport / Leisure

Virtually any sport is available in Geneva. The lake is ideal for all kinds of water sports. The rivers which flow through Geneva offer canoeing and rafting. The nearby countryside is best for hiking and biking, and the mountains for climbing or paragliding. The Geneva region offers one of Europe’s most beautiful golfing sites.

Geneva’s more than 40 museums have something for everyone. The Art and History Museum, covering the entirety of Western culture, Ariana Museum, entirely dedicated to ceramics and glass, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, covering the last four decades of European art and American art, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, and the International Museum of the Reformation.

Geneva is a shopper’s paradise. With its chic international fashion boutiques, well‑stocked department stores and specialty shops, it has no peer for quality and choice of watches and fine jewelry. The last word in shopping is concentrated in a restricted area and makes it possible to do more shopping in one hour in Geneva than anywhere else in a day.

Geneva can legitimately claim the enviable title of gastronomic capital of Switzerland! This year again, Geneva is the Swiss town with the greatest number of international prize‑winning restaurants.
