Transportation

Dominican Republic has eight international airports, the main six including, La Romana International Airport (LRM), Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), Gregorio Luperon International Airport in Puerto Plata (POP), El Catey International Airport in Samana (AZS), Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo (SDQ), and El Cibao International Airport in Santiago (STI). Maritime ports that regularly receive cruise ships include Casa de Campo Port in La Romana, Santo Domingo Port (Don Diego and Sans Souci terminals) and Samana Bay facilities. New infrastructure also make the destination easily accessible. The Coral Highway opened in late 2012 and facilitates traffic between the tourist destinations of La Romana, Bayahibe, Higuey, Punta Cana, Bavaro, Cap Cana, Macao and Uvero Alto, ultimately cutting the drive from La Romana to Punta Cana International Airport to 40 minutes.

The Santo Domingo metropolitan area has a subway with 30 stations located throughout the city as well as a public bus system.

Taxis

Taxis are easily available at major hotels, ports and airports, and tour operators are more than willing to provide additional options for getting around. Regular rates are typically readily available.

Rental Cars

Car rental offices and facilities can be found at most airports. Renters must be 25 with a valid driver's license.
